iOS Update Gone Wrong: Apple Fixes Network Bug Affecting iPhone

Apple rolled out the latest point update iOS 26.2.1, for the current version, alongside it also released iOS 18.7.4, iOS 16.7.13, iOS 15.8.6, and even (for the first time since 2023)  iOS 12.5.8. These updates were intended to fix bugs and improve system stability, and patch security vulnerabilities.

However, soon after deployment, some Apple users are reporting issues like:

Who was affected?

The problem seemed to affect

  • iPhone users running iOS 16.7.13
  • Australian customer on Telstra’s mobile network in Australia
  • Users of older iPhone models that no longer receive major iOS upgrades

iPhone users on iOS 12, iOS 15, and iOS 18 were not impacted and could install updates normally.

What Should Users Do Right Now?

Apple has temporarily halted the rollout of iOS 16.7.13, along with updates for iOS 18.7.4, 15.8.6, and 12.5.8. And, users are advised to update Carrier Settings if their iPhone was affected by the network issue:

  • Ensure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi
  • Open Settings > General > About
  • If an update is available, a pop-up will appear saying Carrier Settings Update Available.
  • Click Update, it will take some time complete
  • Return to Settings > General > About and Check Service Provider
  • Confirm it shows Telstra 54.1

Final Thoughts

Apple’s latest update, iOS 16.7.13, though expected to deliver security fixes, has unexpectedly network issue.  The problem has been resolved through a carrier settings update. In the meantime, Apple temporarily halted the rollout of iOS 16.7.13 and is expected to release a revised update soon that includes the corrected carrier settings.
